SMS will provide functionality to discover available resources, i.e. data, models, published scenarios etc. It will integrate data sources, sensors and models, furthermore allow the user to set boundary conditions of models, manage scenarios, support repository of model results and offer advanced visualisation capabilities.
The SMS features can be classified as basic Scenario Management Platform functionality, Model Integration and Visualisation.
The Scenario Management Platform
The Scenario Management Platform is the central component integrating models through standardized services, advanced visualization capabilities and pilot specific implementations and implementing the necessary workflows to support the use of models as a basis for decision making.
The software is based on the cids geointegration platform that already comes with the necessary horizontal functionalities like data management, access control mechanisms, search, WMS and WFS client components etc.
The platform supports a number of vital features that are used to access Common Services and can be used to manage local models.
- Model management (Information related to a model i.e. meta information)
- Asynchronous model execution
- Management of model runs, results and parameterization
- Basic model result visualization (1D time series, 2D -map)
- Integration of temporal aspects of 2D map visualization
- Search and discovery of objects of concern (results, scenarios, …)
- OGC SOS, SPS, WMS and WFS integration capabilities
Model as a Service Integration
The main objective of this part of the SMS is to provide the means to control model implementations and access model results via standardized web services. The selected standards are members of the OGC SWE family SOS (model result access) and OGC SPS (model control). This part of the SMS can be used to access the respective Common Service as well as to encapsulate local models as in the 4 pilot applications of SUDPLAN.
The current release supports a number of vital features that are used to access Common Services implementing OGC service interfaces and can be used to control local models.
The implementation of SOS and SPS related software is based on the TS-Toolbox API from AIT. The TS-Toolbox API provides the means to conveniently deal with arbitrary Time Series.

SUDPLAN SMS functionality will include ‘an advanced 3D / 4D visualisation component for the visualisation and animation of 3D results and predictions, in particular using the 3D landscape’. The component will aid the planners, modellers and decision makers to gain deeper insights in the correlations of phenomena related to their particular workflow.
The development effort was invested into a component that is able to render integrated information from different sources in 1D, 2D and 3D (WMS; WFS, DEM, O&M Model Results) into one scenario with a geospatial context.
